Hillard Kaufer, CPA

Hillard Kaufer has been a principal with Sax Macy Fromm & Co. since 1994 and is the Director of Tax Controversy. With more than 25 years of tax experience and 30-plus years of accounting experience, he has developed relationships and established credibility with many of the key decision making powers at all jurisdiction levels of federal, state and local taxing authorities.

He authored the article “How to Establish Independent Contractor Status”, published in the Journal of Construction Accounting and Taxation; as well as “Deductibility of Environmental Clean Up Costs” and “Mistakes Lead to Audits”, both published in the Bergen Record. He is also a frequent speaker on tax controversy and has participated on numerous panels and is respected as an expert in his field. Hillard has received recognition awards from the Internal Revenue Service on more than one occasion.

In addition, he was recognized for his distinguished service to the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants as the Interest Group Leader of the Cooperation with IRS Interest Group Committee and was also named one of the Top 50 IRS Representation Practitioners by CPA Magazine in May 2008.

Hillard is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he served as an officer. He was a member of the Federal Tax Committee for four years and is chairman of the Cooperation with the IRS Committee for four years.

Hillard is a New York certified public accountant has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brooklyn College and an MBA in taxation from Long Island University.
