Steven P. Kaplan, CPA, JD, LLM (Taxation)

Steven Kaplan has been a member of Sax Macy Fromm & Co., PC (SMF) since 1981 and a principal with the firm for over 25 years.

Steve specializes in the development and implementation of sophisticated estate and income tax planning techniques. Steve served as Director of Taxation at SMF through 2006 and currently heads up the Firm's Family Tax Services function. Steve oversees and is regularly involved in numerous corporate, individual, fiduciary, and estate planning tax matters of varying complexity on behalf of clients. Using his accounting and legal backgrounds he helps our clients mitigate their tax burdens through sound advice and ideas.

Both a certified public accountant and an attorney, Steve obtained his BS degree in Accounting from Brooklyn College and his JD degree from, Brooklyn Law School. In addition, Steve holds a Masters of Law degree in Taxation from New York University.

Currently serving on the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants Federal Tax and Estate and Trust resource sections, Steve has previously been an active member of its Cooperation with IRS Committee. He also is a member of the Essex County Estate Planning Council. His journalistic credits include a stint as an Editorial Board member for The Chronicle (published by the Essex County Bar Association) and also as author of numerous articles on taxation that have appeared in the Journal of Multi-state Taxation, Estate Planning, and other professional journals. Steve has appeared as a guest on both local and regional radio programs and has also been quoted in the national press. He is a frequent lecturer on various aspects of taxation and tax law.
