Theodora Garbus, CPA

Theodora (Theo) Garbus has practiced accounting for more than 40 years and has been a principal at Sax Macy Fromm for the past 27 years.
Having extensive knowledge in estate and retirement planning for high net worth individuals, Theo works with clients to establish their estate plans and help them meet their financial goals. Her broad knowledge in ERISA has allowed her to assist clients in determining their choice of retirement plans for their businesses and in dealing with the administrative and accounting issues in operating these plans. Theo is in charge of audits of retirement plans as required by the Department of Labor.
Theo is a certified public accountant in both New Jersey and New York. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from New York University.
Theo is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Bergen County, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, and was previously chairperson of the New Jersey Society of CPA's Cooperative with Bankers and Credit Grantors Committee. She has also authored several articles, including “Six Ways to Minimize the Tax Bite on Your Retirement Funds and IRAs: Options for the 90s and Beyond”, which was published in Financial Planning magazine. Theo has served on the Board of Directors of the Girls Club of Garfield, is a Trustee and Financial Officer at her church, and has served on various charities.
