Tax Controversy & Representation
A tax notice or IRS letter arrives as your door. Now what?
At some point in your life, you are likely to receive a letter or notice routinely sent out by the Internal Revenue Service or a taxing authority. These communications notify that a penalty has been assessed, inform of an audit, or question some aspect of your tax filing. Taxing authorities can be difficult to deal with. If not handled properly and promptly, you could be subject to significant penalties.
SMF's Tax Controversy Team regularly handles these notices and related tax problems. The potential scope of the issues is broad and can encompass income tax, payroll tax, sales tax, or estate and trust related issues. Working on behalf of you, our Tax Controversy Team will develop a tangible plan to resolve the issues and remedy the situation. In many past cases, this has involved the forgiving of hundreds of thousands of dollars of penalties.
To continue our own education and ensure that we are continually working with the correct authorities, we take a very active role in national and local professional organizations, routinely participating on their tax committees. In fact, one of our principals chairs the Cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service Committee for the New Jersey Society of CPAs, providing the Firm with a constant open line of communication with the proper taxing authorities.
Handling tax controversy requires skill, experience and finesse. Be assured,
the tax professionals here at Sax Macy Fromm are prepared to work diligently
for you, mitigating and/or eliminating the problem.
